Description: The Hawaiian life was simple but regulated under the systematic laws known as Kapu. Kapu directed daily life and caste relationships. Common penalty for a kapu violation was death. A Kapu breaker was still provided with a place of last resort, similar to biblical cities of refuge. Here someone could seek sanctuary nd live unmolested, committing oneself to the mercy of priests, and the proper penance.
